Connectivity and synchronization with the appliance

The HPE Synergy management appliance communicates with the iLO of the server hardware for all monitoring and management functions. If the HPE Synergy management appliance loses connectivity with the iLO, an alert is displayed until connectivity is restored. The HPE Synergy management appliance attempts to resolve connectivity issues and clear the alert automatically, but if it cannot, you have to resolve the issue and manually refresh the server hardware to synchronize it with the HPE Synergy management appliance.

The appliance also monitors server hardware to remain synchronized with changes to hardware and configuration settings. However, some changes to devices made outside of the control of the appliance (from iLO, for example) might cause them to lose synchronization with the appliance. You might have to manually refresh devices that lose synchronization with the appliance.

You can manually refresh any server that loses its synchronization with the appliance by going to the Server Hardware screen, selecting the specific server and selecting Refresh from the Actions menu.

MCTP Protocol

HPE OneView communicates with devices in the server by going through the iLO, which uses Management Component Transport Protocol (MCTP) to interact with those devices.

MCTP discovery is enabled by default on the iLO. The iLO 5 GUI or REST API allows you to temporarily disable the MCTP option for an entire server or for an individual slot for troubleshooting issues. If you disable any MCTP options on a server, HPE OneView is unable to manage that server.

To fix the management problem, re-enable the MCTP option either through the iLO 5 GUI or REST API, and refresh the server.
