Powering down the server blade

Before powering down the server blade for any upgrade or maintenance procedures, perform a backup of critical data and programs.

Blades can be powered down individually and as a group of all blades in the chassis. Choose the procedure that fits your need.

To power down, do one of the following:
  • Press the Power On button on the server blade momentarily.

This method initiates a controlled shutdown of applications and the OS before the blade enters standby mode.

  • Press and hold the Power On or Standby button of the blades installed in the system for 5 seconds, and then release it to force the server blade to power down.

This method forces the server blade to power down without properly exiting applications and the OS. If an application stops responding, you can use this method to force a shutdown.

  • Use the virtual power button in the blade iLO web interface.

Verify that the server blade is in standby mode by observing that the system power LED is amber. See Server blade LEDs.
