Add hypervisor cluster volume

The volumes configured in the server profile template are automatically listed in the hypervisor cluster profile storage configuration. This procedure describes how to add additional cluster volumes in the Hypervisor Cluster Profile (HCP). You can add and configure volumes within Storage section of an HCP.

Prerequisites

Privileges: Infrastructure administrator or Server administrator or a Server profile architect or Server profile administrator.
For FCOE setup, ensure that:
- SAN Manager is configured.
- Automated zoning is configured on the switch.
- VFC table is populated on the FCoE switch with the MAC ids of the NICs on the servers which are connecting to the FCoE network.
The Manage SAN option for the Server Profile Templates is enabled and the corresponding SAN connections are configured on the Server Profile Template.
A shared storage volume has been created.
Cluster volume names must not conflict with local datastore names on the hypervisor hosts in a cluster.

NOTE:

Commands are required to be run on each ESXi for the ESXi to detect FCOE volumes. For more information, see VMware Knowledge Base at https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2034702.
Confirm that storage volumes are properly configured before adding them to the hypervisor cluster profile. Their configuration cannot be changed once they are added.
If the storage volumes failed to be presented to the server, the hypervisor cluster profile task fails with a warning indicating that datastores could not be created, also resulting in inconsistency.

Procedure

From the main menu, select HYPERVISORS > Hypervisor Cluster Profile.
Do one of the following:
If you are creating a new HCP:
1. In the details pane, select Actions > Create. You can also click +Create hypervisor cluster profile in the left pane.
2. Enter the data requested on the screen. Specify the hypervisor manager, server profile template and other configurations above Storage.
If you are editing an existing HCP:
- In the details pane, select an HCP and select Actions > Edit.
Under Storage, click Add cluster volume.
In the Name field, search and select the volume that you want to add and click Enter.
Select one of the following Filesystem options:
- VMFS—To enable formatting of the volume, select VMFS.
- Unmanaged—If you do not want to format the volume, select Unmanaged.
Select one of the following for LUN option:
- Auto- The LUN IDs are assigned for the cluster defined volumes by HPE OneView.
- Manual- If you want to add the LUN IDs for the clustered defined volumes, choose Manual.
Click Add to create a volume or Add + to create multiple volumes.
Verify that the cluster volumes are listed under Storage.
NOTE:
- You cannot edit the hypervisor cluster volumes after you have added them. You can only remove the hypervisor cluster volumes that you have added.
- Adding a storage volume in an existing HCP updates the template hypervisor storage configuration in the hypervisor cluster profile. This results in an inconsistency reported in the hypervisor cluster profile. Remediate the inconsistency reported in the hypervisor cluster profile to configure the newly added storage volume on all hypervisors in the cluster.
