Edit an email recipient and filter entry

Use this procedure when you need to change the recipient, update the filter to capture alerts, or both.

Prerequisites
  • Privileges: Infrastructure administrator

  • Email notification must be configured.
  • The specific alert to capture.

  • The related scope and the resource categories assigned to the scope.

  • List of potential recipients if that alert is generated.

    You can add as many as 100 entries so that you can tailor the notifications.

Procedure
  1. From the main menu, select Settings.
  2. Do one of the following:
    1. In the Notifications panel, click ..
    2. Click Notifications, and then select Actions > Edit.
  3. Locate the entry you want to edit in the Filters list and click the corresponding icon. icon.
  4. Change the appropriate data in the Edit Alert Email Filter screen:
    1. Enter the filter name.
    2. Choose the Enabled menu item to enable this filter.
    3. Do one of the following:
      • For a simple filter query that does not involve a scope, select Pre-defined and choose one of the available options.

      • For a complex filter query (one that specifies one or more alert statuses, alert states, associated resource categories, or a combination of them) that does not involve a scope, select Guided and choose one or more of the available options.

      • For a filter query that involves a scope:

        1. Select Advanced.

        2. For each of the resource categories assigned to the scope, enter the corresponding associatedresourcecategory.

          IMPORTANT:

          If you do not designate associated resource categories for a scope, alerts for resources in categories that do not allow scope assignments will not be filtered out. Do not rely on this behavior to capture those alerts.

          TIP:

          Momentarily choose the Guided Alert criteria, select the Associated resource criteria entries you need, and then return to the Advanced alert criteria.

        3. Edit the filter query as needed.

        4. Select one or more scope names in the Resource scope field.

        5. Select Match any or Match all, as needed.

    4. Enter the email addresses for the person or group that should be notified when an alert is generated.
  5. Click OK.

    The Filters list displays your edited entry.

  6. Verify your changes, and click OK to apply them.
