Establishing a firmware baseline for your managed devices

A firmware baseline is established, when you assign a specific firmware bundle to a device or collection of devices. This assignment happens when you apply a server profile to a server or when you define a logical enclosure.

Once the baseline is established for a device, HPE OneView monitors that device and alerts the user if the versions on the device deviate from the baseline. Using the firmware management features built in to the appliance, you can define firmware baselines and perform firmware updates of the resources.

Enclosure power supplies and fans

Firmware is updated when you apply the Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) to enclosures.

Interconnects

Firmware is updated when you assign a firmware baseline to the logical interconnect or logical enclosure configuration.

Server blades or rack mount servers

Server and iLO firmware is updated when you apply a server profile or as part of a logical enclosure firmware update where servers are selected.

NOTE:

When the installed firmware versions match the baseline versions for Gen10 or later server models, HPE OneView skips the firmware update.

IMPORTANT:

To ensure optimal system health and performance, keep the firmware repository updated with the latest SPP , and regularly assign the SPP as baselines to your enclosure groups or devices.
