Server profile SAN storage settings

Setting SAN storage from a server profile or server profile template is supported for HPE ProLiant server blades but is not supported for HPE ProLiant rack mount servers.

Associating a server profile or a server profile template with a volume gives the server hardware to which the server profile is assigned access to storage space on a SAN storage system.

Click the when editing a volume attachment. icon to edit volume attachments from the Server Profiles > Edit screen.
NOTE:
  • Some server profile settings can be edited while the server hardware is powered on while others can be edited only when the server hardware is powered off.

  • Some storage systems support both iSCSI and Fibre Channel protocols. Any given volume can be attached to one or more server profiles using only one of the protocols, either iSCSI or FC, but not both. The selection of protocol is determined when making the volume attachment to a server profile.

SAN volume attachments

Associated Template Attachment

If the profile is associated with a profile template, each volume attachment in the profile that is associated to volume attachment specified in the server profile template designates which profile template volume it is associated to for compliance checking. You might have to manually specify the associated template attachment in certain cases.

Boot

Shows if the storage volume is set as the Primary or Secondary boot volume. A blank value is shown if the storage volume is not configured for boot.

You cannot make Shared volumes bootable. The storage volume must be set as Private.

The following fields apply to HPE StoreVirtual volumes only.
Data protection level

The network RAID level of the storage volume.

CHAP name

The iSCSI target username to use when the target (storage system) authenticates the initiator (server).

CHAP secret

The iSCSI target secret (password) to use when the target (storage system) authenticates the initiator (server).

Mutual CHAP name

Where the storage system supports mutual CHAP, the iSCSI initiator username to use when the initiator (server) authenticates the target (storage system).

Mutual CHAP secret

Where the storage system supports mutual CHAP, the iSCSI initiator secret (password) to use when the initiator (server) authenticates the target (storage system).

NOTE:

CHAP values are generated automatically by HPE OneView, and cannot be modified.

SAN storage paths

Adding a storage path through a server profile is supported for HPE ProLiant server blades, but is not supported for HPE ProLiant rack mount servers.

SAN storage targets

Manual target selection is supported for Fibre Channel Fabric-attach and FCoE paths, and is not supported for Fibre Channel Direct-attach and StoreVirtual paths.

You can select one or more target ports which can belong to different port groups.
