Server hardware inventory
When a server is added or refreshed, either as monitored or managed, HPE OneView collects inventory information about that server and the devices inside the server. Any inventory information that is required for applying server profiles is collected during the actual add or refresh operation. Other inventory information that is not required for profiles is collected a short time after, using a low priority background process to conserve system resources.
Some inventory items cannot be collected unless the server is powered on. In such cases, a notification explaining why the inventory collection is not collected is visible at the top of individual inventory pages.
Inventory information collected while adding or refreshing a server
- General server hardware information
Includes model name, product ID, serial number, iLO information, and asset tag.
The server name is collected, as reported by the iLO. This is typically the DNS name of the running operating system as long as the OS has either the Agentless Management Service (Gen8 or newer) or the HP SNMP Agents (G7) installed. Without the supporting software running on the OS, HPE OneView reports whatever name the iLO reports, which could be a name manually set on the iLO.
The running operating system is collected. Collecting the operating system requires a Gen10 or newer server with the Agentless Management Service installed.
- Firmware and driver inventory
A list of all the devices in the server that have firmware and the version of firmware installed on that device.
The installed firmware versions of the components are collected for Gen8, Gen9 and later servers. iLO 4 v2.30 or later is required to collect the firmware versions of all of the components.
- The installed driver versions of the components are collected for Gen8 or later servers. iLO 4 firmware version 2.55 is required to collect the installed driver versions of the components.
Some devices do not support the protocols needed to collect version information. Any version information that cannot be read is displayed as
unknown
.When the iLO firmware is updated outside of HPE OneView, a server hardware refresh is required to update the current firmware inventory.
- Network adapters and ports
- A list of the network adapters in the server, and all ports in the adapter. The port information includes MAC and WWPN numbers, and where applicable, a reference to the interconnect downlink or the switch port to which the port is connected.NOTE:
HPE ProLiant Gen10 rack servers require iLO 5 v1.40 or later to collect the network adapter inventory information.
When HPE OneView powers on a server for discovering and collecting information about I/O adapters, the server does not boot into the operating system during the discovery.
Other inventory information collected using the background process
- PCI device inventory
A list of all the PCI devices installed in that server that are not already inventoried, with detailed information about each discovered device.
NOTE:PCI device inventory is also available for HPE Superdome Flex Server and HPE Superdome Flex 280 Server.
- System memory
A list of all the memory slots in that server, with detailed information about any DIMMs installed in those slots.
- Storage controllers and disks
A list of all storage controllers, with detailed information about the controller and any disks that are connected to that controller including any logical drives that are presented by that controller.
