Red Hat subscriptions in HPE GreenLake

1. Service overview

The Red Hat subscriptions (the “Service”) in HPE GreenLake supports the following Red Hat software for HPE GreenLake Flex Solutions deployment.

  • Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform (OCP)
  • Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform
  • Red Hat OpenShift Platform Plus (OPP) with Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation (ODF) storage
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server and add-on software

Red Hat software is provided on a per-instance or per-installation subscription basis. Red Hat subscriptions can be purchased separately as an add-on to HPE GreenLake Flex Solutions built on standard modules or customized infrastructure and service experience. Red Hat subscriptions are billed as a separate UOM, unless otherwise stated in the Statement of Work (“SOW”).

  • 2. Core service features

    • Red Hat subscriptions software usage metering, capacity reporting, and capacity planning
    • HPE branded support for Red Hat subscriptions. It includes the following proactive and reactive support features from HPE support team:
      • GreenLake Flex Solutions start-up and operation services
      • Two options for the reactive support of Red Hat subscriptions:
        • Remote 24x7 for premium subscriptions
        • 9x5 response for standard subscriptions
      • The reactive support level and service experience for the Red Hat subscriptions align with what is specified in the SOW.

    Prerequisites


    When Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform subscriptions are purchased as an add-on in an HPE GreenLake Flex Solutions built on customized infrastructure or standard modules, it requires Red Hat certified HPE GreenLake hardware and OCP operators.

When a customer bare metal deployment includes both Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) compute cluster and Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation (ODF) storage cluster, the Red Hat OpenShift Platform Plus (OPP) bare metal bundle SKU will apply. The OPP bundle subscription SKU contains OpenShift Container Platform (OCP), Advanced Cluster Management (ACM), Advanced Cluster Security (ACS), ODF essential (with ODF storage capacity =<256TB), and Quay (Open-source registry platform).

  • The OPP bundle subscription entitles the OCP worker nodes, OCP control plane nodes, OCP infrastructure nodes and up to 256TB of ODF internal mode storage capacity.
    • When the ODF internal mode storage cluster capacity is <= 256TB, the deployment only needs the OPP bundle subscription.
    • When the ODF internal mode storage cluster capacity is > 256TB, the deployment needs the OPP subscription and the ODF Capacity Expansion Pack per TB subscription, for capacity >256TB.
  • The subscription is counted only for the OCP worker nodes.
  • One subscription SKU entitles a physical server with up to two CPU sockets and up to 128 Cores. Servers with more than two sockets or more than 128 Cores require additional subscriptions

The OPP with ODF Advanced for OpenShift Container Platform SKU allows customer to deploy Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) with Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation (ODF) storage in external mode cluster for bare-metal deployment, and some other features like stretch cluster, advanced granular encryption with KMS support, etc. Multiple OpenShift compute clusters can share a single external mode ODF storage cluster. Internal mode ODF storage cluster is dedicated to a single OpenShift compute cluster.

The subscription is a bundle SKU that includes the OPP Bundle SKU (MW04352MO or MW04353MO)

  • The subscription is counted only for the OCP worker nodes.

The OPP core-based subscription bundle SKU contains OpenShift Container Platform (OCP), Advanced Cluster Management (ACM), Advanced Cluster Security (ACS), ODF essential (with ODF storage capacity =<256TB), and Quay (Open-source registry platform).

The subscription is an add-on SKU to the underlying OPP bare-metal/core-based bundle SKU to entitle the ODF storage cluster beyond 256TB.

For the OPP deployment, if the ODF storage cluster capacity is > 256TB, customer needs to purchase the required number of the Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation Capacity Expansion Pack 1TB subscription to entitle the extra storage cluster capacity.

  • One subscription SKU entitles 1TB of ODF storage capacity.

Metering design

  • Metering is only enabled for RHEL physical server deployment.
    • For a physical server with Intel processors, if the average CPU utilization is above 3%, the full subscription is used for that physical server.
    • For a physical server with AMD processors, if the server is powered on, the full subscription is used for that physical server.
    • The monthly subscription usage is the monthly average of daily usage.
  • Currently, metering is not available for RHEL virtual machine deployments. The monthly subscription usage is 100% of committed subscriptions based on the forecasted maximum number of virtual machines to be deployed.

The Red Hat HPC offering is a special use case that cost effectively addresses HPC clusters. An HPC cluster must include at least one Head Node and one Compute Node.

Two separate subscriptions are needed to build a RHEL HPC cluster:

  • Head Nodes - control the entire cluster; used for management, job control, and launching jobs across the cluster.
  • Compute Nodes - perform the actual HPC calculations, Compute Node support level inherits from Head Node support level (Premium or Standard).

This subscription entitles RHEL for HPC Head Node on either a physical or virtual basis.

  • For physical server, each RHEL Server subscription entitles a physical server with up to two sockets.
  • For virtual node, each RHEL Server subscription entitles one virtual node regardless of virtual sockets.

Metering design

  • Metering is only enabled for RHEL physical server deployment.

Subscription characteristics

The Red Hat HPC offering is a special use case that cost effectively addresses HPC clusters. An HPC cluster must include at least one Head Node and one Compute Node.

  • RH02928MO is the RHEL for HPC Compute Node SKU.
  • RH02929MO is a SKU with Extended Update Support (EUS). You can use RH02929MO if you need EUS. With EUS, Red Hat provides backports of Critical and Important impact1 security updates and urgent-priority bug fixes for a predefined set of minor releases of RHEL. EUS enables customers to remain with the same minor release of RHEL for 24 months, allowing for stable production environments for mission-critical applications.   • For physical server, each RHEL Server subscription entitles a physical server with up to two sockets.

  • 3. General provisions and exclusions

    • Customers are subject to the use terms in the Red Hat Enterprise EULA and grant HPE right to accept the Red Hat Enterprise EULA on behalf of Customer.
    • Customers grant HPE access to their Red Hat Customer Portal account or create a new account on behalf of Customer.
    • The Red Hat subscriptions in HPE GreenLake deposited in the Red Hat Customer Portal account only entitle HPE GreenLake deployment. They are not entitled for other deployment.
    • Our ability to deliver this service is dependent upon the customer’s full and timely cooperation with HPE and authorized partners, as well as the accuracy and completeness of any information and data customer provides to HPE.
    • Services are either performed remotely or at the customer’s site, based on the SOW.
    • HPE and authorized partners assume that all information provided by the customer is accurate and will collaborate with the customer to determine acceptable estimates for any information that is not available.
    • Any service not clearly defined in this service description and/or SOW is excluded from this service.
    • Customer acknowledges and agrees that HPE may use resources outside the country of purchase for delivery of these services unless otherwise specified as part of the SOW.
    • This service enables only the Red Hat products listed in this document and can only be purchased with HPE GreenLake Flex Solutions.
    • The Red Hat subscriptions in this document do not include multi-tenancy support. The subscriptions are only entitled for a single tenant customer.
    • When the Red Hat subscriptions are sold separately as an add-ons with an HPE GreenLake Flex Solutions, the service specifications are governed by this service description.
    • Support for Red Hat Subscriptions purchased in an HPE GreenLake deal must come from HPE. Customers will not be able to call Red Hat for support.
  • 4. Customer responsibilities

    When Red Hat software is purchased by Customer as add-on with HPE GreenLake Flex Solutions, The Customer must:

    • Support HPE delivery team to identify the software entitlement party, set up account in the Red Hat Customer Portal and help in the ongoing management of Red Hat subscriptions in the customer portal.
    • Support HPE with activities such as assessment, design, and deployment specific to the service options.
    • Assign stakeholders to participate in planning meetings.
    • Provide the current architecture, standards, and detailed design documentation needed for installation, deployment, configuration, and management.
    • Support connectivity requirement for HPE to perform lifecycle management.
    • Give HPE access to network services such as NTP, DNS, default gateways, routes, and remediation, if needed.
    • Make any modifications to the existing network that are required and identified during the planning stages of this service, prior to arriving on-site to perform configuration and integration tasks.
    • Provide Active Directory credentials for commissioning and integration of the solution.
    • For initial deployments when Customer is performing initial self-installation & configuration of Red Hat technologies, Customer agrees to complete properly configured installation of the Red Hat technologies, after HPE’s rack & stack installation of hardware. Customer agrees to complete the installation by the date agreed to with the HPE Account Team. The date agreed allows sufficient time for HPE to install its metering technology.
    • Customer will be responsible for completing installation of Red Hat technologies associated with growth change requests, unless otherwise stated in the SOW.
    • Customer will be the “entitled party” as they will be managing the Red Hat technologies, unless otherwise stated in the Customer’s SOW. This means Admin permission of the Red Hat Portal account for the HPE GreenLake environment is granted to Customer with user-permissions for provisioning (i.e. downloading) Red Hat monthly subscriptions from the Red Hat Portal account. An account will be set up in the Red Hat Customer Portal, solely for Customer’s HPE GreenLake account environment, with Customer agreeing to only use the Red Hat subscriptions in this account for the HPE GreenLake environment. Unless otherwise agreed to in writing, Customer and HPE roles & responsibilities are outlined in the following table:
