Installing an M.2 NVMe SSD on the system board
Prerequisites
Before you perform this procedure, make sure that you have the following tools available:
T-15 Torx screwdriver
4.5 mm hex nut screwdriver
Phillips No. 1 screwdriver
Procedure
- Power down the server.

Remove all power:
- Disconnect each power cord from the power source.
- Disconnect each power cord from the server.
- Disconnect all peripheral cables from the server.

Do one of the following:
If the server is in tower mode: Position the tower server for hardware configuration.
If the server is in rack mode: Remove the server from the rack.
- Remove the front bezel.
- Remove the access panel.
- If installed, remove the air baffle.
- Remove the alignment screws:
- Install the hex nut screw on 2242 or 2280 standoff position on the system board.

Install the M.2 SSD:
- Insert the SSD into the M.2 SSD slot at a 45° angle.
- Carefully press the SSD down to the horizontal position.
- Secure the SSD to the M.2 SSD enablement board with the removed Phillips screw.
- If removed, install the air baffle.
- Install the access panel.
- Install the front bezel.

Do one of the following:
If the server is in tower mode: Position the tower server for operation.
If the server is in rack mode: Install the server on the tray.
- Connect all peripheral cables to the server.

Connect the power cords:
- Connect each power cord to the server.
- Connect each power cord to the power source.
- Power up the server.
The installation is complete.
