CS500 System Description

CS500 system overview.

The Cray® CS500™ system is a scalable, flexible system that consists of optimized, industry‑standard building block server platforms unified into a fully integrated system. CS500 systems are air-cooled cluster supercomputers that use standard 42U or 48U 19in racks.

The Cray CS500 systems are x86-64 Linux servers that support features such as diskless provisioning of the operating system, virtual cluster provisioning, remote monitoring, and out-of-band management. The system supports InfiniBand, Omni-Path, and Ethernet high-speed networks, an Ethernet network (for provisioning and operations), and a dedicated Ethernet management network.
There are two rackmount server models:
  • 3211 compute nodes contain four Intel® S2600BP based motherboard trays each with two Intel Xeon® Scalable family processors and 16 DIMM slots.
  • 1211 service nodes provide maximum configuration capabilities and is used for maximum I/O expansion, login, NVIDIA GPU, large-memory, system management, or data storage functions. The server uses a single Intel S2600WF motherboard with two Intel Xeon® Scalable family processors and provides 24 DIMM slots, either no onboard LAN (baseline) or optional dual 10-GbE LAN ports; and a 1 GbE dedicated management port
