Server Hardware Types

Each server added to HPE OneView is analyzed and assigned a server hardware type.

For blade servers, the server hardware type is based on the model of the server and an ordered list of all adapters installed in that server. For instance, two servers with the same model and adapter list will have the same server hardware type. For rack servers, the server hardware type is based on the model of the server, as the list of adapters is not included.

Server hardware types work with server profiles and server profile templates. You can copy or move a profile or template assigned to a particular server to another server with the same server hardware type as both servers have the same model and adapters. The two servers must also be in the same enclosure group.

The server hardware type also contains a list of all the capabilities provided by the blade server and its adapters, or the rack server. When you create a server profile or profile template, these capabilities determine the settings that the profile can control.
