Launch an iLO console to manage servers remotely

An iLO remote console enables you to remotely connect to the server to do the following:
  • View the graphics console of the physical server and interact with it using your local keyboard and mouse as if they were connected directly to the physical server.

  • Power on, power off, or reset the server.

  • Mount CD/DVD media from your local system onto the server as if it were locally attached.

Remote Console Options

HPE OneView offers access to three different types of iLO remote consoles. You can choose based on your environment, console needs, and general preferences.
  1. HTML5 Remote Console: This universal console runs in modern browsers using the HTML5 protocol. It does not require you to install an application, and can run on Windows and Linux systems. The HTML5 console has most of the features of the Integrated Remote Console. This console does not support some of the advanced features including mounting virtual media from a local folder and recording iLO video.

  2. Windows-Integrated Remote Console: The iLO console is a Windows binary application that is installed on each client computer the first time the console is launched. The application can then be automatically called by HPE OneView when you request access to a console. This console is the most full featured console of the three available consoles.

  3. Java Plug-In Console: This console uses Java on the client system. This was the only console for Linux clients until the HTML5 console was available. This console has only basic features, and may not run on systems where Java has been disabled in the browser.
Prerequisites
  • Privileges: Infrastructure administrator, Server administrator, Server firmware operator, Server profile architect, Server profile administrator, or Server profile operator

  • An iLO Advanced license might be required to use the remote console. For more information, see HPE iLO Licensing Guide.

  • The HTML5 console is supported by the following iLO versions:
    • HPE iLO 4 version 2.70 and later

    • HPE iLO 5 version 2.14 and later

  • The Java Plug-In Console opens a popup window. Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends that you disable popup blocker of your browser.

Procedure

  1. Launch the iLO remote console using one of the following options:
    • SERVERS > Server Hardware, and then select a server.
    • SERVERS > Server Profiles, and then select a server profile.
  2. Launch any of the following three consoles:
    • To launch HTML5 Remote Console select Actions > Launch HTML5 console.

      NOTE:

The initial Launch console action prompts for an installation and will attempt to open the installer. The number of dialog boxes presented during installation depends on the browser.
      • In Internet Explorer, click Run when prompted.

      • In Chrome, when you click Install software, the downloaded iLO Integrated Remote Console installer file is displayed in the lower left corner of the browser. Click this file name to begin the installation.

      • In Firefox, click the Save File button when Firefox first tries to open the installer, and then double-click the installer file when it is displayed in the Downloads dialog to begin the installation.

      NOTE:

If you attempt a Launch console action and no errors occur during installation, but no console is displayed, press and hold the Shift key and then select Actions > Launch console to reinstall the remote console as described in Reinstall the remote console for proper iLO operation.

    • To launch Java Plug-In Console, select Actions > Launch console.

If you are connecting from a non-Windows client, then the Java Plug-In Console will launch automatically. If you are connecting from a Windows client, the Java Plug-In Console is activated from the launch link on the Install software dialog. If the Install software dialog does not appear, hold the shift key down when selecting Launch console.
