Updating the BIOS and/or iLO firmware using the iLO web interface
- From the iLO web interface, navigate to the Firmware & OS Software page.
- Click Update Firmware in the right side pane, and then click Browse and enter the location of the firmware image file in the File box. If the NSC has been updated with the NSC DVD, the firmware image files are located in the \C: Non-SUT Firmware \Lyy.xx FW folder, where Lyy.xx is the RVU identifier.
-
Click
Upload to start the update process. iLO notifies you:
When you update the iLO firmware, iLO will reboot automatically.
That some types of server firmware might require a server boot, but the server will not reboot automatically.
-
Click
OK.
The iLO firmware receives, validates, and then flashes the firmware image.
The firmware update will not start if you navigate away from the Firmware Update page before the file upload is complete.
IMPORTANT:Do not interrupt the firmware update. If a firmware update is interrupted or fails, clear the error (if required) and attempt the firmware update again.
When you update the iLO firmware, iLO reboots and closes your browser connection. It might take several minutes before you can re-establish a connection.
- For iLO firmware updates only: To start working with the new firmware, clear your browser cache, and then log in to iLO.
-
For BIOS firmware updates only: For the new firmware to take effect, the system ROM (BIOS) requires a server reboot.
TIP:
To confirm that the new firmware is active, check the firmware version from iLO as described in Step 8.
-
If an error occurs during an iLO firmware update, the symptom would be that the iLO firmware cannot be updated.
If the cause is a communication or network issue, attempt to update the iLO firmware again by using the iLO web interface. If it does not respond, does not accept the firmware update, or is stopped before a successful update, try reinstalling the firmware after you complete these steps: Otherwise, skip to Complete the post-installation configuration.
Attempt to connect to iLO through the web browser. If you cannot connect, there is a communication issue.
Attempt to ping iLO. If you are successful, the network is working.
Try a different firmware update method. For more information, see the HPE iLO 5 User Guide.
- If the problem is that an iLO firmware update is corrupted or canceled, and iLO is corrupted, see "iLO network Failed Flash Recovery” in the HPE iLO 5 User Guide.
- If you are adding a server blade, and the IE or SPS firmware does not require update, see the core license instructions in Step 9.
