Monitored server hardware

Monitored servers are managed outside of HPE OneView and use the free HPE OneView Standard license. HPE OneView monitors the server hardware for inventory and hardware status only. Monitoring allows you to monitor power, cooling, hardware health, and utilization. You can power on and off the server, launch the iLO Integrated Remote Console, and review inventory. You can also get email notifications, and SNMP trap forwarding.

The monitoring feature is available for all G6 and later HPE ProLiant servers with iLO 2, iLO 3, iLO 4, or iLO 5. If a server is being monitored by HPE OneView, you can still manage the enclosures, server profiles, and Virtual Connect infrastructure through the legacy VCM or VCEM tools. You cannot manage server profiles for monitored server hardware in HPE OneView.

For HPE Superdome Flex Server, server chassis that are in a rack manager are added as monitored if the firmware installed on the rack manager does not support managed mode features.

Managed server hardware

For a managed server hardware resource, the configuration can be applied by assigning a server profile to it.

Managing the server hardware enables you to apply configurations, assign server profiles, monitor operation status, collect statistics, and alert users to specific conditions. Server blades that are in a managed enclosure are automatically added as managed.

Managed servers require an HPE OneView Advanced or an HPE OneView Advanced without iLO license.

For HPE Superdome Flex Server, server chassis that are in a rack manager are automatically added as managed if the firmware installed on the rack manager supports managed mode features.
